Men’s Soccer Topples Alvernia for Fifth Straight Win

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University Men's Soccer team defeated Alvernia University in a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Commonwealth game on Wednesday night by a final score of 3-1.

Markus Beugre, the reigning Offensive Player of the Week, led the way with a goal and an assist on three shots, two on goal. JP Phillip also finished with a goal and an assist, putting up two shots, one on goal. Josh Moreland scored as well, placing both of his shots on goal. Seiya Sato made two saves in 45 minutes while Stas Maretski made one save.

Neumann scored first, in the 17th minute, Jordan Illian broke down the right side of the box and sent a cross to Phillip. Phillip followed with a short pass to Beugre, and he lifted in his second goal of the season. Five minutes later, Ron Ribera drove the ball into the box and connected to Beugre. He turned and fired to the net, but it landed at the feet of Phillip, who deposited his second goal of the season, doubling the Knights' lead.

In the 27th minute, Alvernia cut their deficit in half as a loose ball popped off of a Golden Wolves' head and eluded Sato to the back of the net. Finally, in the late stages of the half, Victor John head-manned into the box and was tripped up, drawing a penalty kick opportunity for the Knights. Moreland stepped up to take it and stutter-stepped it into the left side corner for his fifth of the season.

The second half went scoreless as Neumann, overall, had a 20-7 advantage in shots. Despite a 7-3 deficit in corner kicks, the Knights had nine shots on goal to Alvernia's four.

Neumann (10-3-1, 5-0 MAC Commonwealth) will now prepare for a battle of conference unbeaten teams as they'll host No. 20 ranked Messiah University on Saturday night at 7:00 PM.
