Knights Split at Tri-Match

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Neumann University women's volleyball team split a tri-match at the University of Rochester on Saturday afternoon. The Knights defeated Fredonia State in an exciting 3-2 match. Neumann then fell to host Rochester, 3-0.
 
The Knights won the opener in thrilling fashion, coming back from down 2-0 to win 3-2. Julia Solomon tallied 21 kills and a .362 hitting percentage. Melissa Eddy added 15 kills, a .400 hitting percentage and 18 digs. Amiya Carter handed out 27 assists and Emma Kovacs added 26 assists and 11 digs. Raiza Batario finished the match with 15 digs.
 
Tied at six in set one, Fredonia State scored eight of the next nine points to take a 14-7 lead. The Blue Devils took set one 25-20. Fredonia State used a few mini runs in set to for a 25-21 win to take a 2-0 lead.
 
The Blue Devils built an 18-13 lead in set three. The Knights started to chip their was into the deficit and tied the set at 22. Fredonia State was at match point, 24-23, when Neumann scored the next three points. A kill by Taylor Dinnis tied the set at 24. A Solomon service put the Knights up 25-24 and a kill by Eddy gave Neumann the 26-24 set three win.
 
Tied at three in set four, Neumann scored 12 of the next 14 points, including eight in a row, for a 15-4 lead. A kill by Dinnis sealed the 25-14 set four win to force a fifth set.
 
In the deciding set, the Blue Devils built a 10-5 advantage. The Knights chipped their way back and tied the set at 12 on a kill by Solomon. Fredonia State took the next two points to get to match point. A Solomon kill and a block by Solomon and Dinnis knotted the set at 14. Down by one, three straight kills by Solomon gave Neumann the 17-15 set five and 3-2 come-from-behind match win.
 
Against Rochester, Carter dished out 10 assists. Hannah Strohm tallied 11 digs.
 
The first set went back and forth with the Yellow Jackets. With the Knights holding a 14-13 edge, Rochester scored seven of the next nine points for a 20-16 lead. The teams continued to go back and forth down the stretch, but the Yellow Jackets came away with the 25-20 set one win.
 
Rochester held the pace for set two and cruised to a 25-11 win. Neumann built a 10-6 advantage to open set three. The Yellow Jackets scored five straight points and 12 of the next 14 for an 18-12 lead. The Knights responded with four consecutive points to get back within two, 18-16. As Rochester reached match point, Neumann scored the next three points before the Yellow Jackets sealed the 25-21 set and 3-0 match win.
 
Neumann (6-10) is back in MAC Commonwealth action on Wednesday when it hosts Albright. Action gets underway at 7:00 PM.
