FAIRPORT, N.Y. – The Neumann University Women's Hockey team started the 2026-27 season with a 4-0 non-conference loss at St. John Fisher University on Friday afternoon.
The Knights fought off a furious offensive attack throughout the first period, but the Cardinals were able to convert with 4:24 left on a rebound goal. They would double their lead less than two minutes later as a short breakaway was backhanded in for the 2-0 lead. After a scoreless second period, St. John Fisher made it a three-goal edge as a shot caromed of the post and was swatted in, just over two minutes into the third. They added a power play goal in the late stages to close out the game.
As a team, Neumann's defense blocked a total of 17 Cardinal shots. They were led by
Marissa Rumsey's five blocks, followed by four blocks by
Addison Albrecht. When a shot got through,
Noelle Woodard was there, making a career high 70 saves.
Neumann (0-1) will look to split the weekend series against St. John Fisher University on Saturday at noon.
