ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University Women's Soccer team were defeated in a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Commonwealth match on Tuesday night by Widener University by a final score of 3-0.
Neumann found themselves trailing 1-0 late in the first half of action. Despite playing well defensively Widner finally broke through in the 39th minute as a giveaway found the back of the net for a 1-0 lead. Though play was even through much of the first half the Pride took the momentum and ran with it starting the second half off with a tilt of the field and high-quality opportunities.
The Pride, in the 57th minute, took a 2-0 lead as a point-blank shot was saved but the rebound was shuffled home. After an unfortunate red card was issued against the Knights, Widener pounced for one more insurance goal in the 72
nd minute.
Ebony Arvelo led Neumann with three shots, two on goal.
Julianna Hatt also had one shot.
Shannon Duffy made 10 saves in the effort.
Neumann (2-7-1, 0-2 MAC Commonwealth) will be back in action on Friday afternoon when they visit Eastern University for a 3:30 PM start.
