ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University Field Hockey team dropped a 4-0 decision against their Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Commonwealth rivals, No. 10 ranked York College of Pennsylvania on Wednesday afternoon.
York got on the scoreboard 6:44 into the game as they converted after a scramble in front of the Neumann goal. Seven minutes later, on a penalty corner, they made it 2-0 on a rebound goal. In the second, a loose goal in the goalmouth area was tapped in by the Spartans, giving them a three-goal edge. After 30 minutes of play, the Knights were outshot 16-1 but the halftime break allowed them to regroup defensively.
The third quarter was a much tighter affair with York only carrying a 2-1 advantage in shots during a scoreless frame. The final quarter featured more of the same with a 4-3 difference in shots. 1:38 into the period, a crossing pass connected for a Spartans insurance goal.
Natalie Zoffer led the Knights with two shots, both on goal.
Ly'Airrah Sanders kept the score close by making 10 saves, a career high.
Neumann (6-4, 0-2 MAC Commonwealth) will try to break into the win column on Saturday afternoon when they host Albright College in another MAC Commonwealth affair. The opening hit is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
