Men’s Lacrosse Battles at King’s College

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The Neumann University Men's Lacrosse team dropped a 10-6 decision in non-conference play on Wednesday night against King's College.

King's scored the first goal in the game with 9:46 left in the first but Neumann tied the game just over a minute later when Kaden Adams found Matt Morris close to the cage, and the first quarter ended even at one. The Monarchs got back on top early in the second with two quick goals for a 3-1 lead with 11:09 left in the half. With 3:46 left, Adams broke free with a shot on the run to make it 3-2 but King's again had an answer and regained the two-goal lead 82 seconds later, and that's the lead they would carry into the break.

The Monarchs pushed ahead with two more goals in the third quarter before Neumann could find an answer. With 3:25 left, Morris was behind the cage with possession. After a quick stutter-step, he moved in front of the goal and scored for a 6-3 game. King's notched two more goals in the last 1:02 of the period for a five-goal heading into the final 15 minutes.

After two goals by King's in the fourth, the Knights' Darius Thompson received the ball 20 yards out, swept to his right and scored his sixth of the year. 39 seconds later, Luke Sykes got a pass from behind the net from Morris and then struck again from a Morris pass with 2:31 left for his seventh of the year to close out the game's scoring.

Morris finished with two goals and an assist while Adams had a goal and two assists to go with six ground balls. Bryan Avanzato led defensively with five ground balls and two caused turnovers. Sean Kelly won five of the six faceoffs he took. Owen Avelar made 13 saves in goal.

Neumann (0-6) will return to action on Saturday, March 28th when they open Atlantic East Conference play with a home game against Centenary University at 5:00 PM.
