PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Neumann University Women's Lacrosse took on their second Division II team of the season, dropping an 18-8 game against Jefferson University on Thursday afternoon.
Jefferson got the ball rolling with the first three goals of the game but with 1:36 left in the first,
Alena Catka got Neumann involved with a goal. After the Rams struck 29 seconds into the second,
Ainsley George got a pass from
Maggie Miller at the 11:15 mark. Jefferson notched the next two for a 6-2 lead then Miller received an assist from
Tessa Vannello with 103 seconds left. Jefferson added two goals in the last 49 seconds of the half for an 8-3 lead at the break.
The Rams dominated the early portion of the third quarter by scoring four goals in the first 5:06, powering ahead to a nine-goal edge. The Knights would not lay down as they got a goal from Vannello with 7:15 left and tallied two more from
Adriana O'Heron and George to get the score with six with 15 minutes left in regulation. Miller completed the hat trick with a goal 12 seconds into the fourth, but Jefferson pulled away with six straight goals. Miller scored one more with 1:30 left to finish the afternoon.
Miller led with three goals and an assist. George got two goals and an assist with both Catka and Vannello finishing with a goal and an assist each.
Miley Pascal led defensively with four caused turnovers with
Nora Brady and
Molly Schmeltzer adding three each. Catka also starred at the draw with 10 draw controls.
Neumann (2-4) will return to the field on Saturday when they host DeSales University in a non-conference game. The opening draw will be at 1:00 PM.
