Baseball Drops Match-Up at Penn State Abington

ABINGTON, Pa. – The Neumann University Baseball team fell in a non-conference game on Tuesday afternoon against Penn State Abington by a final score of 15-3.

Penn State Abington started the scoring in the bottom of the first inning as they picked up four runs on an RBI single, an RBI double, and a two-run single. They scored a single run in the second on a double play. With one out in the third, Anthony Rakotz walked and moved to third when Nick Ciesielka doubled to left. JerVal Shuler drove in Rakotz on a sacrifice fly to make it a 5-1 game.

In the fifth, the Nittany Lions sent 13 men to the plate on their way to a big inning. It started with a two-run single to pull ahead by six. Then it was a two-run double, another two-run single, and RBI double, and a run-scoring wild pitch that led to a 13-1 lead. They added a couple more in the fifth on a single and a hit by pitch.

In the top of the seventh, Brayden Fields came in to pinch hit and reached on a single to left. Cody Rullo got on via an error and both runners moved to second and third on a fly out. Alex Gambol flew out to center to drive in Fields on the sacrifice and Shuler brought in Rullo on an RBI single, both that's as close as the Knights would get.

Shuler drove in two of Neumann's three runs and Rakotz reached base three times as he went 1 for 2 with two walks and a run scored. Brady Middlekauff was dealt the losing decision to drop his record to 0-1. Noah Murdock closed things out on the mound with a solid 1.2 innings. He gave up two hits and a walk and struck out two.

Neumann (6-5) will have a quick turnaround as they'll host Penn State Berks tomorrow afternoon at Bruder Field starting at 3:30 PM.
