MORRISTOWN, N.J. – The Neumann University Baseball team scored at lead two runs in each of the first six innings on their way to a 16-1 win over Saint Elizabeth University in a Monday afternoon Atlantic East Conference game.
Tyler Kilmer was 2 for 3 with three runs batted in as he was one of six who had multiple RBI.
Nick Ciesielka was 2 for 4 with two RBI and two runs scored and
Andrew Brown was 2 for 3 with a double, a walk, a hit by pitch, two RBI, and two runs.
Donovan Brooks had two RBI and three runs scored while
Yoan Feliz had three RBI and a run.
Alex Gambol earned the win with six innings of shutout ball. He allowed three hits and a walk while striking out six, improving his record to 2-1.
With one out in the first,
Anthony Rakotz singled to left and moved to second on a passed ball. Ciesielka walked and
Andrew Brown was hit by a pitch, loading the bases. Kilmer drove in the game's first run with a base hit and
Jackson Armiger plated Ciesielka on a fielder's choice for a 2-0 lead.
Brody Foltz reached base with one out in the second with a single up the middle. Brooks followed with a two-run blast to right, his first home run of the season, doubling the Knights' lead. Brown led off the third with a base hit to right and moved to second on a ground out. Armiger followed with an infield hit to move Brown to third. Feliz then took a 1-1 pitch and blasted it over the left field wall, his second of the season, giving them a 7-0 lead.
In the fourth, Brooks led off with a walk and moved to second when Rakotz reached on an error. After a double steal placed them on second and third, and a groundout, Brown smacked a double to center to score both runners. Kilmer followed with on an RBI single for a 10-run edge.
The Knights continued to add on in the fifth as
Colton Shaub scored on an error, Ciesielka knocked in Brooks with an RBI single, and Rakotz scored when Kilmer was hit by a pitch. A pitching change for the Eagles didn't stop Neumann's offense as Ciesielka scored on a fielder's choice to make it 14-0. In the sixth, Rakotz drove in Shaub on a groundout and Ciesielka plated
Matt Starchville with a single. Saint Elizabeth broke the shutout with a solo homer in the seventh.
Neumann (9-5-1, 4-2 Atlantic East) will be back in action on Tuesday when they visit Albright College for a non-conference game starting at 3:00 PM.
