Women’s Lacrosse Blasts Mighty Macs to Finish Regular Season

IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Neumann University Women's Lacrosse team took a shut out into the fourth quarter against Immaculata University on Wednesday afternoon as the Knights took home an 18-4 win to end the regular season.
 
Alena Catka had a massive game to lead the Knights, finishing with seven goals and three assists, along with nine draw controls, six caused turnovers, and five ground balls. Rachel Roane had four goals and two assists while Tessa Vannello scored a hat trick. Sarah Kiraly made three saves in 45 minutes to earn the win.
 
Catka got the game rolling at the 11:27 mark of the first quarter with an unassisted goal. She then struck again with a woman-up goal at 9:34. Over the next 14 seconds, Rachel Roane struck twice, and the Knights were off and running. Catka notched the early hat trick with Krista Geibler, Gracie Kucia, and Roane closing the quarter for a 8-0 lead.
 
Ainsley George kept it going 23 seconds into the second with a woman-up goal and Catka followed 11 seconds later. Catka scored two more in a span two minutes and Vannello struck with 4:24 left, and Neumann took a 13-0 lead into the half.
 
Catka, Arianna Hutchison, Vannello, and Roane scored the only goals of the third to push the lead to 17. Early in the fourth, Immaculata got on the board and ended up with a four-goal run that took them to the 2:08 mark. Vannello closed the match with a goal with 31 seconds remaining.
 
Neumann (7-8, 5-0 Atlantic East) finished the season as the Atlantic East Conference Regular Season Champions and will be the top seed in the postseason tournament. On Saturday, they'll again take on Immaculata, this time at home, in the semifinals. The opening draw control will be at 1:00 PM.
