HADDONFIELD, N.J. – The Atlantic East Conference announced their weekly awards on Monday afternoon, and a quartet of Neumann University student athletes were honored.
Alena Catka was named the Women's Lacrosse Player of the Week and Softball's
Marina Costello was named Pitcher of the Week. Baseball's
Jackson Armiger and Men's Lacrosse's
Cooper Dee were both placed on the weekly Honor Roll.
Catka scored six goals and added three assists for 10 points as Neumann wrapped up the regular season with an 18-4 win at Immaculata. The junior also had nine draw controls, six caused turnovers and five ground balls as the Knights went 5-0 in conference action to be the No. 1 seed in the postseason. This is her third Player of the Week selection of the season, and seventh weekly award.
Costello pitched a complete game in the circle to help the Knights clinch the No. 2 seed in the postseason with a 9-2 win over Saint Elizabeth to complete the sweep. Over 7.0 innings, she allowed two unearned runs on six hits and struck out six and did not walk a batter. Additionally, she hit .750 (6-for-8) with two doubles, five RBI and scored three runs. This is the second weekly award of the season for the grad student, and fourth Pitcher of the Week award in two seasons at Neumann.
Armiger hit .500 (8-for-16) as Neumann went 3-2 overall and 2-1 in conference action. In an 8-7 walk-off win over Rutgers-Camden, the first year went 4-for-4, knocked in two and scored three, including the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning.
Dee scored four goals as Neumann wrapped up its season against Immaculata. He scored his four goals on six shots, five on net, and picked up two ground balls.
