Baseball Slays Keystone in Last Non-Conference Game

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University Baseball team took advantage of their opportunities in a Wednesday afternoon non-conference game, defeating Keystone College by a final score of 9-7.

Donovan Brooks was 2 for 3 with two stolen bases, a run batted in, and a run scored. Brayden Fields had a triple, a stolen base, an RBI, and two runs scored. Anthony Rakotz and Jackson Armiger each had a double, an RBI, and a run scored. Kaden Netta got the win after pitching 3.1 innings in relief. He allowed a run on four hits and two walks. Rey Carrier earned the save in .2 innings, giving up one hit.

Keystone started things off in the top of the first inning, picking up runs on an RBI single and a hit by pitch with the bases loaded. In the bottom of the inning, Fields got the Knights on the board with an RBI triple. He later scored on a wild pitch to tie the game. They took the lead on a balk and weren't finished there. Brooks drew a bases loaded walk, Rakotz plated a run on a sacrifice fly, and when the inning was done, Neumann had a 7-2 lead.

The Giants got a run back on a bases loaded walk in the third but in the bottom of the frame, Brooks scored on a throwing error and Field scored on an error to take the lead to seven. Keystone scored a run in the sixth on a double play, and in the eighth, another on an error. In the ninth, the Giants pulled within two, and got the tying run on base, but the Knights held on for the win.

Neumann (19-13-1, 8-7 Atlantic East) will take to the field on Friday for Senior Day, and the last home game of the season, as they host Marywood University in an Atlantic East Conference game. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 PM.
