HADDONFIELD, N.J. – The Atlantic East Conference announced their weekly awards on Monday afternoon, and three Neumann University student-athletes were recognized.
Alex Gambol was named the Baseball Pitcher of the Week while his team,
Anthony Rakotz, and Softball's
Ellie Zarnawski were both named to the weekly Honor Roll.
Gambol went 1-0 on the mound and picked up a save as the Knights were 3-1 overall and 2-1 in conference action. The first year started against Saint Elizabeth and hurled six innings of shutout ball on three hits while striking out six. He followed with his first collegiate save in a 3-1 win at Marymount. He went 2.1 innings and allowed just one hit and struck out three.
Rakotz hit .412 (7-for-17) and had at least one hit in each game. To open the week against Saint Elizabeth, the junior had a hit, knocked in a run and scored three runs. In the 9-8 win at Albright, Rakotz went 4-for-5 with a double, run scored and RBI. He picked up a hit in each game as the Knights split a doubleheader at Marymount. This is his second weekly Honor Roll selection this spring.
Zarnawski hit .571 (4-for-7) in a split against DeSales in Neumann's only two games this week. She also knocked in two runs and stole a base. The first year hit an RBI single to pull the Knights to within one, 3-2, in game two over DeSales. She then singled in the tying run in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game at five and force into extra innings. This is her third weekly award and second Honor Roll selection.
