Men’s Lacrosse Undone at Marymount

ARLINGTON, Va. – The Neumann University Men's Lacrosse went down to Virginia for an Atlantic East Conference match-up against Marymount University, falling by a score of13-9.
 
The Knights got the offense started 1:50 into the game when Connor Hurley scored. Over the next six minutes, Marymount rattled off three goals in a row to gain the lead. With four minutes left in the first, Luke Sykes found a pass from Matt Morris to get within one, but with 25 seconds left, the Saints regained a two-goal edge.
 
1:47 into the second, Bryan Avenzato struck for his fourth goal of the season. The Knights then tied the game up at four with 11:31 left in the half when Sykes scored with the man-up. The game settled down there for the next six minutes before Marymount mounted a charge of three straight goals to lead 7-4 after 30 minutes.
 
At the 8:57 mark of the third, Cooper Dee scored twice in the span of 1:02, pulling the Knights within one but again, the Saints had an answer. They scored the last three goals of the third, and the first two of the fourth for a 12-6 lead with 12:16 left in regulation. Sykes broke the Marymount run with his 11th goal of the season. After a final Saints goal with 4:04 left, Neumann tried to come back. With 2:23 left Connor Hurley scored and he did it again with 53 seconds left, but the comeback stalled there.
 
Hurley led with three goals and two assists. Sykes had a hat trick and Dee ended with two goals. In addition to his goal, Avenzato led with four caused turnovers and four ground balls. Owen Avelar made 23 saves in goal.
 
Neumann (0-10, 0-1 Atlantic East) will be back in action on Saturday for a senior day match-up against Atlantic East Conference foe, Marywood University. The action starts at 1:00 PM.
