Field Hockey Battles in Overtime Loss

GLENSIDE, Pa. – The Neumann University Field Hockey team dropped a tough 2-1 overtime decision on Monday afternoon against their cross-conference rivals Arcadia University.

Arcadia got on the board first when an entry pass inside the circle was deflected to the post and was reversed in, giving them an early lead in the sixth minute of play. With 1:44 left in the first, Neumann responded when Gabriella Cappelli took a step into the circle and smashed in her first goal of the season, tying the game. The rest of the half went scoreless as Neumann led in shots, 6-2, but Arcadia led in corners, 3-2.

Throughout the second half, Neumann controlled much of the play. They outshot Arcadia, 14-3, and out cornered them, 10-3, including four penalty corners in the last five minutes, but they could not find the mark, sending the game into overtime. Arcadia regrouped before the extra session and grabbed a fast break early on. They made it count just 59 seconds into overtime to take the game on a goal during a goal-mouth scramble.

Jess Silver led the way with five shots, four on goal. Natalie Zoffer came off the bench to contribute three shots with two on goal. Cadence Conti and Brogan Heilig each had two shots, all forcing a goalkeeper response. Shannon Roberts made two saves in the effort.

Neumann (2-2) will be back in action on Wednesday afternoon when they host Delaware Valley University for a 4:00 PM start.
