ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University Men's Soccer team blanked King's College in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon by a final score of 1-0.
Harry Beugre led the offensive effort with four shots, one on goal.
Chase Dougherty and
Owen Rem each attempted two shots.
Stas Maretski did not need a save on his way to his first collegiate shutout.
In the first half that was tightly played, Neumann outshot King's by a 4-3 margin. The Knights placed both shots on goal and had a 2-0 edge in corner kicks, but the first 45 minutes went without a goal.
Neumann were able to break through in the 58
th minute and
Tony Huertero-Perez sent a brilliant cross into the box and onto the head of
Luke Mejia and into the goal. For Mejia, it's his fourth goal of the season. That is all the Knights would need as they would control the pace throughout the second. Overall, Neumann outshot King's, 12-6, had five of the game's six corners, and the Knights had the game's only five shots on goal.
Neumann (4-2-1) will be back in action on Wednesday as they challenge Division II squad, Goldey-Beacom College. Kick-off from the Turf Field is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
