HARRISBURG, Pa. – The Neumann University Field Hockey team shut out Penn State Harrisburg in a Tuesday afternoon non-conference game by a final score of 2-0.
Gabriella Cappelli led the way with a goal and an assist on two shots, one on goal.
Cadence Conti had the Knights' other goal on two shots, both on goal while
Angie Ricci placed both of her shots on the net.
Ly'Airrah Sanders earned the win with one save, improving her personal record to 2-0, and getting her first collegiate shutout.
Just over five minutes into the game, the Knights stole a breakout pass and turned it into a great chance on goal. A pass from
Natalie Hackett was crossed to Cappelli who one-timed in the goal for her second of the season and a 1-0 lead. In second, with 1:30 remaining, another clearing attempt by the Nittany Lions was altered by Conti and Cappelli took a chance towards the goal from distance that was deflected by Conti for her fourth goal of the season.
The rest of the game went scoreless but, the Knights controlled much of the play throughout the game, outshooting Penn State Harrisburg by a 6-3 margin. They also led in shots on goal, 5-1 with the Nittany Lions earning eight penalty corners to Neumann's five.
Neumann (5-2) will return to action on Saturday afternoon when they host Stockton University for a 12:00 PM start.
