BRISTOL, R.I. – The Neumann University women's volleyball dropped a pair of matches in day two of the RWU Invitational on Saturday. The Knights fell 3-0 to Babson and Plymouth State.
Against the Beavers, the scores were 25-14, 25-12 and 25-18.
Melissa Eddy tallied six kills and
Julia Solomon added five.
Amiya Carter handed out 11 assists and five digs.
Neumann took an early 6-3 lead in the first set. Babson answered with the next six points for a 9-6 edge. The Beavers then pulled away for the first set win. Babson jumped out to an early 11-1 lead in the second set for the eventual 25-12 win.
The teams went back and forth to start set three before Babson started to pull away with a 13-8 advantage. The Knights pulled within two, 15-13, with a kill by
Kyndra Dale and a service ace by
Hannah Strohm. The rest of the third set again went back and forth before the Beavers took the match with a 25-18 set three win.
Dale led the Knights with eight kills against Plymouth State. Eddy added seven,
Bri Gautier six and Solomon tallied five.
Emma Kovacs dished out 12 assists and three service aces. Carter and Strohm each finished with five digs.
The Panthers used three runs of 4-5 points to build a comfortable lead, taking set one 25-15. Plymouth State opened the second set by scoring the first five points. Neumann rallied with five straight points of its own to tie the set at nine, capped with a service ace from Solomon. The teams traded four point rallies and were tied at 14. Down 22-18, the Knights scored three straight points before the Panthers took set two 25-21.
The start of set three went back and forth. Plymouth State started to pull away and use six straight points for a 22-13 advantage. Neumann answered with the next four points, two service aces from
McKenzie Dale and kills from K. Dale and Eddy. The Panthers wrapped up the set with the next three points for a 25-17 win.
Neumann (1-3) will travel to Immaculata on Wednesday for a non-conference match beginning at 6:00 PM
