YORK, Pa. – The Neumann College men's basketball team opened its 2008-09 season with a 71-57 win at York (Pa.) College Saturday night.
Marquise Boggs led the Knights with 14 points and eight rebounds. Sean Armstrong netted 10 points. Ns'Sheed Linton dished out nine assists. Mike Walukiewicz hit a trio of three pointers for his nine points.
Julian Watson led York with 13 points. Paul Kouvaris netted 12 points and nine rebounds. Jeremy Keefer added 10 points and nine rebounds.
The teams battled back and forth in the first eight minutes of the contest. With the score tied at 8-all, Walukiewicz hit his first shot from downtown to give the Knights an 11-8 lead. Neumann would not relinquish that lead the rest of the contest. Walukiewicz's basket also started a 9-0 run by the Knights. The Spartans would get as close as 25-22 for the rest of the first half.
In the second half, Neumann extended its lead to double figures. The Knights led by as many as 20 points early in the second, but York chipped away and cut Neumann's lead to seven points with 5:34 left. Linton converted a three-point play to put Neumann back up by 10 and the Knights held on for the 71-57 win.
Neumann will face Susquehanna tomorrow in the championship game on Sunday at 3 p.m.
