Women's Basketball Beats Catholic

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann College women's basketball team avenged an earlier season loss to Catholic University by defeating the Cardinals, 76-69, Friday evening in non-conference action.

 

Brittany Whetts led five Knights in double figures with 20 points and 22 rebounds. Krista DiRomualdo netted 13 points. Dominique scored 11 points. Nicole Reby and Katie Young each added 10 points. Sami Borcky added 13 boards.

 

Brianna Peterson led Catholic with 25 points and 10 rebounds. Jenn Canale scored 15 points and Kerri Confrey added 11 points.

 

Catholic came out strong and fast in the first half and scored the games first eight points. The 8-0 lead was the biggest lead for either team in that half.  A free throw by Whetts at the 9:19 mark tied the game at 19. There were six more ties in the first half. Catholic held a two points lead, 34-32, at halftime.

 

A three pointer by DiRomualdo at the 16:37 mark of the second half put the Knights up by two and Neumann never trailed again. Neumann built its lead to as many as 12 points, 70-58, with two-and-a-half minutes remaining in regulation. Two free throws by Catholic's Jenn Canale pulled the Cardinals to within four points. Free throws by Thompson and Katie Young put the game away for the Knights.

 

Neumann is off until after the New Year when it travels to Orlando, Fla. for the ECAC Holiday Festival Tournament at Walt Disney World. The Knights will face Sage College on January 3 and Worchester Poly Tech Institute on January 4.
