POUGHKEEPSIE, Pa. – The Neumann College men's basketball team defeated Vassar College, 74-62, Saturday afternoon in non-conference action.
Mike Walukiewicz led the Knights with 17 points including three from beyond the arc. Mike Hitchens netted 16 points while Eli Hitchens added 11.
Brian Butterworth led Vassar with 18 points. Matt Nunn scored 14 points and pulled down 10 boards.
The first half was competitive with neither team taking more than a three point lead and had the score tied four times.
Neumann started the second half on fire and scored the first seven points to take a 37-27 lead. Vassar would climb back with two, 39-37, but would never take the lead. Neumann held Vassar scoreless for four minutes the Knights built their lead from eight points to 15 points. The Knights biggest lead was 17 points, 69-52, with three minutes remaining in regulation.
Neumann improves to 3-4 overall. Vassar is now 4-4. The Knights will host Rowan University on Friday, December 19th to wrap up the 2008 part of their schedule. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m.
