Women's Ice Hockey Falls at Utica

, N.Y. – The Neumann University women's ice hockey team fell to Utica College, 4-3, Tuesday evening in an ECAC West contest.

 

Utica scored three goals in the third period to take the game. Both team scored two power play goals. Jessica Schroeder, Jasper Thomson and Holly Williams scored for the Knights, now 4-2-1 on the season and 2-2-1 in the conference. Laura Keeley made 19 saves in net. Neumann out shot Utica 41-23.

 

Schroeder scored the Knights first goal 11:18 into the first period from Diane Peters.  The Pioneers answered with a power play goal with only two minutes left in the period. The Knights offense controlled the first period, out shooting Utica 13-6. 

 

Neumann took back the lead with a 5-on-3 power play goal 7:56 into the second period on a goal by Thomson. Nicole Alexopoulos assisted on the goal. The Knights defense kept the puck out of the net and only allowed eight shots. The offense produced 17 shots on net. 

 

Utica knotted the game at two-all just eight seconds into the third period. The minutes later, Williams put Neumann back up, 3-2, from Mariah Fairgrieve and Brittany Metcalfe.

 

The Pioneers once again knotted the game at 3-all at the 7:05 mark of the third period. As time was winding down in regulation, Utica netted a power play goal with 2:55 on the clock. The Knights pulled goaltender Keeley in the final 1:10, but could not get the equalizer and the Pioneers won 4-3.

 

Neumann will travel to Plattsburgh St. on December 5-6. The puck drops at 7 p.m. on Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday.
