Baseball Opens Season Splitting at Wesley

DOVER, Del. – The Neumann College baseball team he opened its 2009 season with a split at Wesley College. Neumann won the first game 2-0 while dropping the nightcap 14-3.

Ray Schmoltze pitched 6.2 innings while allowing just one hit, while striking out six, in the first game. Sean Quigley pitched 0.1 for the save. 

The Knights scored a run in the first after Bobby Callan singled and later scored. George Hatton knocked in Brian Alberger in the fourth for the second run.

Matt Gallagher knocked in two runs in the first inning of the second game to give the Knights an early lead. Wesley answered as Tyler Burns hit a grand slam in the Wolverines half of the first. 

The Knights made the score 4-3 with an unearned run in the fourth, but Wesley scored five runs in the fourth and the fifth to put the game away. 

Stan Sauk started the game for Neumann, going 3.1 innings. 

The Knights will be back on the field tomorrow as they travel to Virginia Wesleyan for a double header. First pitch is slated for noon.
