Baseball Falls in Home Opener

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann College baseball team opened its 2009 home schedule with a 13-6 loss to DeSales University Wednesday afternoon.

 

Joseph Slater scored two runs for the Knights. Kevin Lengyel had two hits, scored a run and an RBI. Eric Silakowski had two RBI.

 

Ray Schmoltz started the game and pitched 3.2 innings. Art Wharton came in relief for Schmoltze. Eddy Darrah went 2.1 innings.

 

DeSales opened the game with four runs in the top of the first. After adding a run in the top of the second, Neumann scored three runs in the home part of the half.

 

Neumann then scored three runs in the bottom of the third and the game was knotted at 6-all. DeSales then exploded for five runs in the fourth inning and didn't look back. The game was called after six innings due to darkness.

 

The Knights will host the City College of New York for a doubleheader on Saturday. First pitch is slated for 12:30.
