POTSDAM, N.Y. – The Neumann College women's ice hockey team defeated Potsdam State, 5-2, in a key ECAC West match-up Saturday afternoon.
Nicole Alexopolous netted two goals for the Knights, including a shorthanded goal. Jasper Thomson had a goal and an assist. Holly Williams added two helpers.
Potsdam got on the board quickly, just 18 seconds into the game. Alexopolous scored her first goal at the 9:28 mark to tie the game. Jessica Schroeder put the Knights ahead five minutes later.
Alexopolous netted a shorthanded goal in the second period to put Neumann up 3-1. Thomson scored her goal with two minutes left in the second to put the Knights up by a 4-1 score into the second intermission.
The Bears cut the lead to 4-2 mid-way through the third. Nicki Blazenko netted an unassisted goal at the 16:41 mark to seal the win.
Mel Brunet had 39 saves in net for the win. The two teams will meet again tomorrow afternoon. The puck is set to drop at 2 p.m.
