ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann College baseball team fell to Swarthmore College, 20-10 in eight innings, Tuesday afternoon in non-conference action.
Matt Gallagher, Jason Vilimas and Kevin Flannigan each had two hits for the Knights. Flannigan and Billy Canady each scored two runs. Sean Quigley pitched four innings in the start for Neumann. Ray Schmoltze and Joseph Slater each pitched two innings in relief.
Michael Cameron had four hits and scored four runs for the Garnet. Ben Schneiderman had three hits, runs and RBI. Zach Sinemus started the game for Swarthmore and went 2.1 innings. Sam Menzin pitched two innings while Adam Koshkin went 1.2 and Z Weiner pitched the final two.
Swarthmore opened the game by scoring four runs in the first inning. The Garnet would go on and score at least one run in every inning.
Neumann started a comeback in the third inning. Down 7-1, the Knights batted around plus one to get the score to 7-6. Flannigan and Brian Alburger each hit a double in the inning.
The Knights stayed within striking distance until the top of the eighth when the Garnet pounded out seven runs. The game was called after eight innings due to darkness.
Neumann opens conference action this weekend with Centenary College. The Knights will travel to Hackettstown, N.J. on Friday for a single game. Neumann returns open to host the Cyclones in a doubleheader on Saturday.
