Baseball goes 4-1 on Spring Break Trip

Ft. PIERCE, Fla. – The Neumann College Baseball team went 4-1 in five games in Fort Pierce, Florida over spring break last week.

In the first game, the Knights fell to Lebanon Valley, 8-6, Thursday. Ray Schmoltze pitched 6+ innings. Stan Sauk went two shutout innings in relief.

Matt Grossi was 2-4 with three RBI. Grossi hit a three-run homerun in the seventh inning to put the Knights up by a 6-5 score. 

Kevin Lengyl scored two runs and Matt Gallagher hit a double. 

Neumann rebounded on Friday with a sweep of Susquehanna, 7-6 and 9-8. 

Kevin Lengyl pitched five innings for the win in the first game. He struck out six batters while walking one. Joe Slater struck out three batters in the seventh for his first save. 

Matt Gallagher was 3-for-4 with two RBI. Billy Canady was 2-for-3, scored two runs and had an RBI. Jason Vilimas went 2-for-4 with two RBI. 

Scott Hammell struck out three batters en route to the win in game two. Brian Alburger pitched the seventh inning for his first save of the season.  

Matt Grossi was 3-for-3 with an RBI. Billy Canady hit a three-run double and scored two runs. 

Neumann wrapped up spring break with a sweep of Ursinus College, 5-2 (8 inn.) and 6-5. 

Joe Slater picked up the win in game one, going 1.2 innings in relief. Kevin Lengyl went 2-for-3 with a run scored and two RBI. Kevin Flannigan was 2-for-4 with two RBI. 

Neumann scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh for the win. Zack Penman picked up the win for the Knights. 

Matt Gorssi was 2-for-4, scored two runs and had an RBI. Kevin Flannigan was also 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI. Foster McKoskey hit the game winning single in the seventh. 

Neumann returns home on Tuesday as it hosts Misericordia. The single game is slated to start at 3 p.m.
