CHESTER, Pa. – The Neumann College softball team split a pair of games at Widener University Thursday afternoon in non-conference action. Games scores were Widener 5, Neumann 1 and Neumann 3, Widener 2 in eight innings.
In game one, Lauren Strack knocked in Caitlin Hanrahan for the Knights only run. Rachel Purpuro started the game and went 4.1 innings in the loss. She struck out two. Angela Sebasto pitched 1.2 innings in relief and struck out three.
Widener scored runs in the first three innings to take a 4-0 lead after three.
In game two, Gabrielle Lulias had the game-winning RBI in the eighth inning for a 3-2 win. Strack had three hits in the game. Sebasto and Kimberly Kirkpatrick each had two hits.
The Knights scored two runs in the seventh inning to tie the game at 2-all and sent the game into extra innings. After Hanrahan, Kirkpatrick tripled for Neumann's first run. Strack then doubled to knock in Kirkpatrick and tie the game.
Sarah McGann started the game and went 6.1 innings. She allowed two runs on six hits and struck out four. Brittany Campbell went 1.2 innings in relief and picked up her first win of the season.
Neumann will wrap up its conference schedule this weekend. The Knights will travel to Rosemont College on Friday for a doubleheader before finishing up at Centenary College on Saturday afternoon.
