ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann College defeated Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) opponent Marywood University, 14-4, Friday afternoon.
Matt Gallagher was 3-for-5 for the Knights with four RBI and two runs scored. Kevin Lengyel was also 3-for-5, knocked in two runs and scored a run. Matt Grossi had three hits in the game. Kevin Flanigan, Eric Silakowski and Lincoln Schrock each had two hits.
Lengyal went seven innings as he improves to 4-2 on the season. He allowed four runs, three earned, on nine hits and struck out eight. Ray Schmoltze pitched two innings in relief.
Joe Diskin and Matt Newcomb each had two hits for the Pacers. Diskin also scored two runs. Korey Evan started the game for Marywood and went three innings. Alex Magid and John Stolan each pitched two innings in relief while Mike Paterno had the final inning.
The Pacers got on the board in the first inning as Diskin stole home. Neumann responded with two runs in the bottom of the first. Bobby Callan reached on an error and Gallagher hit a triple for Callan to score. Gallagher then scored on a Lengyel single.
The Knights added three runs in the third inning to take a 5-1 lead. Marywood scored two runs in the fourth to cut Neumann's lead to 5-3. A five-run fifth inning put the game out of reach. The Knights added four more runs in the sixth. The Pacers could muster up one more unearned run in the seventh.
The teams will meet again tomorrow in Scranton for a doubleheader. The first game starts at noon.
