HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Neumann College baseball team defeated Haverford College, 11-6, Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action.
Kevin Flanigan was 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored. Joseph Slated had two RBI. Matt Gallagher scored three runs while Kevin Lengyel and Matt Grossi each scored two.
Art Wharton started the game and went 3.2 innings. He allowed four runs on four hits. Sean Quigley went 2.2 innings in relief. He allowed two runs on two hits. George Hatton picked up the win, going 2.2 innings.
Five runs in the eighth and ninth innings proved to be the difference in the game. Flanigan hit a two-run single in the eighth to break a 6-all tie. Slater earned an RBI on a fielder's choice. The Knights added two runs in the ninth.
The teams battled back and forth to start the game. The Fords got on the board first with one run in the second inning. Neumann tied the game at one as Flanigan knocked in Gallagher on a single. The Knights added another run in the fourth before Haverford plated three runs in the bottom of the fourth for a 4-2 lead.
Neumann tied the game at four with two unearned runs in the fifth inning. Both teams scored two runs in the seventh for a 6-all game.
Neumann wraps up regular season play against Gwynedd-Mercy this weekend. The Knights will be at GMC on Friday before returning home for a doubleheader on Saturday.
