Baseball Beats Aggies, Advances to ECAC Semifinals

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – The Neumann College baseball team defeated Delaware Valley College, 12-5, Wednesday afternoon in the first round of the East Coast Athletic Conference (ECAC) South Region. With the win, the Knights advance to the South Region semifinals to be held on Friday at Wilkes University.

 

Lincoln Schrock and Matt Gallagher each hit homeruns for the Knights. Gallagher finished 3-for-5 with three runs scored. Schrock went 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored. Billy Canady was 3-for-5 and Matt Grossi ended 3-for-4 and scored four runs.

 

George Hatton improves to 2-1, going six innings and allowing two runs on three hits. Ray Schmoltze pitched two inning and Sean Quigley pitched the ninth.

 

The Aggies got on the board first with a run in the bottom of the first. Neumann answered with two runs in the second, but Delaware Valley tied the game at two in the home half of the second.

 

The Knights would take the lead for good in the third inning with three runs. Canady highlighted the inning with a two-run single.

 

Schrock hit his three-run shot in the seventh inning while Gallagher hit his solo long ball in the eighth for insurance.

 

Neumann will face the No. 2 seed Penn State-Altoona on Friday. The game will be at Wilkes University with the first pitch slated for noon.
