ASTON, Pa. - The Neumann University women's tennis team won their first conference home match against Philadelphia Biblical University, 8-1, on Thursday afternoon. The Knights are now 2-2 overall and 1-0 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC).
The Knights opened the match by sweeping the doubles competition. The first doubles combination of Ali DeTolla and Maria Evans won their match 8-3 over their counterparts, followed by an 8-2 victory for Jasper Thomson and Michelle Steward in the second doubles spot, and a 8-0 shutout win for Allison Trout and Kayla Chamberlain to give Neumann a 3-0 lead heading into singles play.
Neumann continued to roll in singles play. DeTolla had a hard-fought 7-6 (7-3), 7-5 match at first sinlges, but lost in the end. The Knights bounced back beginning with a 6-2, 6-2 win for Thomson in the second singles spot, and a 6-1, 6-1 win for Trout in the third-singles role. Lindsey Ravior won her fourth-singles match 8-2, followed by 8-0 win by Steward at fifth singles. Freshman Gabrielle Porcelli, rounded out the win for the Knights, 6-0, 6-0.
The Knights return back to the courts Saturday, when they travel to Marywood University for another conference match. The match is slated to start at 12:30pm.
