Men's Basketball Falls at Navy

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Neumann University men's basketball team fell to the U.S. Naval Academy (USNA) 74-62 Tuesday evening in non-conference action.

 

Patrick O'Conner led the Knights with 21 points, including three from beyond the arc and going 8-for-9 from the line. Marquise Boggs netted 14 points. Again, the Knights spread out their rebounds. O'Conner led with eight boards.

 

Greg Brown led the Midshipmen with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Jordan Sugars added 16 points.

 

Navy opened the game on a 7-0 run. Dom Gibson hit a three-pointer and was fouled at the 16:04 mark to put Neumann on the board. He hit the free throw for a 7-4 score. O'Conner then knocked down a three pointer to tie the game at 7-all with 14:30 on the clock.

 

Marquise Boggs hit a jumper and was fouled with 13:40 on the clock. His free throw made the score 10-9 for Neumann's first lead this season. With the scored tied at 14, Navy went on a 9-0 run. Mike Walukiewicz connected from downtown to break USNA's run.

 

The Knights continued to chip away at the Midshipmen's lead and with 3:59 on the clock, O'Conner hit a three pointer for a 29-28 lead. He was fouled and made his free throw for a two point Knights advantage. With time running down in the first half, O'Conner again connected on a three-pointer and put Neumann up 35-33. The Knights then foul as time is running out and the Midshipmen make 2-of-3 from the charity line with no time left on the clock and the team went into the lockers rooms knotted at 35.

 

The difference in the game came as Navy went on a 10-0 run from the 12:42 mark to 9:51 to jump to a 55-45 lead. The Knights would get to within six points, 55-49, with 8:50 on the clock, but could not get any closer. The Midshipmen held off the Knights for the 73-62 win.

 

Neumann (0-2) is off until next Saturday, November 27, when it will host Rowan University in its home opener. Tip-off is slated for 12 noon.
