MILTON, Mass. – The Neumann University men's ice hockey team picked up its first win of the season with a 5-3 win at Curry College Saturday evening.
Jordan Zalba scored twice for the Knights. Michael Rey added a goal and an assist. Scott Farrell notched two assists. Ross MacKinnon made 35 saves in net.
Curry opened the scoring just 2:51 into the game. Neumann answered as Sean Crozier and Zalba scored at the 15:19 and 19:19 mark, respectively. The Knights took the 2-1 advantage into the first intermission.
Marlon Gardner scored a power play goal 5:17 into the second period, off an assist from William Lacasse. Zalba then scored his second goal, the eventual game-winner at the 8:08 mark. Curry scored a power play goal before the end of the period, and the Knights held a 4-2 lead at the second intermission.
Curry cut Neumann's lead to 4-3 4:09 into the third period. Rey scored an empty net goal with 46 seconds left in regulation to seal the win.
Neumann (1-1-1) will open its ECAC West action next weekend. The Knights will host Elmira on Friday evening at 7 p.m. and Hobart at 7 p.m. on Saturday at Ice Works.
