PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Neumann University women's ice hockey team defeated Chatham University 10-3 Saturday afternoon in an ECAC West match-up.
Mariah Fairgrieve had four assists for the Knights. Nikki Blazenko scored twice for Neumann. Nine other Knights lit the lamp. Shannon Donnelly started in goal for Neumann and made nine saves in two periods. Allie Frank played the third period and made four saves.
The Knights were 6 for 10 on the power play. Blazenko opened the scoring with a power play goal from Brittany Metcalfe and Kayla Dubowski 8:43 into the game. The Cougars tied the game a minute later. Olivia Pryzbylkowski gave the Knights a 2-1 lead with 3:57 left on the clock and the lead heading into the first intermission. Lynsey Nakamura and Amelie St. Louis assisted on the goal.
Neumann poured on the offense in the second period, scoring four goals. Jasper Thomson scored a power play goal. Blazenko netted the eventual game-winner while Nicole Alexopoulos and Jessica Schroder put the Knights up 6-1 after two periods.
Chatham scored 2:29 into the third period. Angela Gilmour netted her first collegiate goal on the power play at the 3:54 mark. Edie Brenning also scored her first goal and Khristine Acosta rounded out Neumann's scoring.
Neumann (2-0, 2-0 ECAC West) will open its home schedule next weekend when its hosts Plattsburgh St. The puck is set to drop on Saturday at 8 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Sunday.
