Men’s Basketball Drops Overtime Thriller

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's basketball team dropped a close Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) match-up to No. 22 ranked Cabrini College, 87-89 in overtime.

The Knights offense was led by Na'Sheed Linton who netted 30 points.  Marquise Boggs added 18 points, Mike Walukiewicz scored 13 and Ty Robinson contributed 10 points.

The Cavilers were paced by Kevin Misevicius who scored 31 points and pulled in 14 rebounds. Cabrini had three other players in double-figures on the afternoon. Dan Robinson and Cory Lemons each netted 14 points and A.J. Williams added 13 points.

Neumann fell behind early, 13-3, in the first four minutes of the game. However, the Knights responded with a 14-8 run to pull within one point, 25-26, with 8:27 remaining in the half.  After trading several baskets, Robinson's jumper gave Neumann their first lead of the game, 40-38, with 3:35 on the clock. The Knights took a four point advantage into the half, 46-42.

The Cavilers hit the first basket of the half cutting the lead back to two points, but Neumann quickly responded. Boggs extended the lead back to six points with 14:35 remaining. The teams were tied at 65 with 3:37 left on the clock, but the Cabrini went on a 10-3 run, including two three's from Misevicius, to take a seven point advantage with 1:00 on the clock. Neumann fought back and hit two key three-pointers, one by Walukiewicz and another by Boggs, in the final minute to stay in the game. The Boggs three-pointer with 20 seconds left capped an 8-2 run, sending the game into overtime tied at 76. 

The overtime period was back-and-forth with neither team gaining a significant advantage. The Cavilers opened up a four point lead but Walukiewicz responded with a three-pointer to bring them back within a point, 87-88 with 14 seconds on the clock. Down by two, Boggs was fouled and sent to the line, but he could not connect on the free throws and Neumann fell in overtime 89-87.

Neumann enters the Colonial States Athletic Conference playoffs as the No. 3 seed. The Knights will host No. 6 Centenary College in first round playoff action on Monday evening. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. This is the first home playoff game for Neumann since the 2003-04 season.
