Wright Hits Winning Lay-up with 9 seconds left

GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. – The Neumann University men's basketball team took the lead with nine second left and held off Gwynedd-Mercy College for a 75-72 win Monday evening in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action.

Na'Sheed Linton led the Knights with 22 points. Mike Walukiewicz added 13.

Matt Johnson led the Griffins with 17 points. Brandon Sharp netted 14 and Jon Hogga added 13. Lamerie Talley scored his 1,000th career point in the first half.

Toure' Wright hit a lay-up with nine second left in regulation to put the Knights up by one point. Marquise Boggs then stole the inbound pass and was fouled. He made both throws from the line to put Neumann up by three with 7.2 seconds left. GMC came down the court and attempted a three-pointer to tie the game, but could not get a shot off and Neumann came away with the 75-72 win.

The Knights shooting started off slow as they were down 11-3 four-and-a-half minutes into the game. Neumann then went on a 22-4 run over the next eight minutes. Walukiewicz hit a three-pointer midway through the run to put the Knights in the lead.

The Griffins cut the lead to one, 29-28, with 3:51 left in the first half, but the Knights kept the advantage and took a 36-32 lead into halftime.

Gwynedd-Mercy held the lead for the majority of the second half, but could not build a lead of more than six. The Griffins had a five point lead, 68-63, with 2:51 left in regulation. Linton then made one-of-two from the line. Walukiewicz was then fouled on a three-point attempt and made all three from the line to cut the Griffins lead to one. Boggs hit a lay-up with 1:20 on the clock to put the Knights up by one, 69-68. The teams then had a tie score three more times while trading free throws. Talley made the final free throws for the Griffins before Wright hit the lay-up to give the Knights the lead for good.

Neumann, 11-10 overall and 9-5 in the CSAC, sweeps the season series with GMC. The Knights defeated the Griffins 87-79 in overtime earlier this season. Neumann will host Cabrini on Wednesday evening in a CSAC contest. Tip-off is slated for 8 p.m.
