Knights Sweep Pacers

ASTON, Pa – Neumann University women's softball swept Marywood University to improve to 4-0 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference.

 

Game one of the double header had the Knights taking home a 2-1 victory. Lauren Strack had two hits, a run scored and an RBI for Neumann. Brittany Campbell pitched complete game on the mound to take home the win. Campbell struck out six on the afternoon.

 

The Knights got on the board early scoring in the bottom of the first. The Pacers answered to tie the game at one in the top of the third inning. Megan Mazur would come around to score in the bottom of the fourth to give Neumann a 2-1 lead. Campbell would hold Marywood scoreless for the final three innings.

 

Game two saw more offensive play from both teams. Jennifer Goslin hit two doubles and drove in three runs. Kim Kirkpatrick had two hits and scored three runs in the Knights 8-5 win to complete the sweep.  Rachel Purpuro pitched five innings and struck out three to pick up the win. Sarah McGann recorded the save.

 

Neumann got out to an early 2-0 led, but the Pacers responded with two runs in the fourth to tie the game at two. The Knights bats woke up in the fifth and sixth innings. Neumann extended their lead back to three runs, knocking in three runs in fifth. Marywood responded with two runs in the top of the sixth inning. The Knights would not let the Pacers in to the game, by scoring three more runs going into the final inning. Neumann would take home the 8-5, to improve to 6-10 overall and 4-0 in the CSAC.

 

Neumann travels to Immaculata next Saturday for a double-header, scheduled to start at 1p.m.
