ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Neumann University baseball team defeated DeSales University, 8-5, Thursday afternoon in non-conference action.

Bobby Callan was 3-for-5 and scored three runs. Matt Grossi knocked in four runs. Russell Gilliam started the game and went 5.0 innings for the win. He struck out six. Mike Dicken pitched three innings and struck out five. Cody Younker went one inning.

The Knights put four runs on the board in the third inning. Joe Armata hit a two-run homerun to left center for the first two runs. Grossi then knocked a two-run shot to right center for a 4-0 Neumann advantage.

NU picked up two more runs in the fifth inning. DeSales scored two runs on a two-out singles in the home half of the fifth. The Bulldogs added another run in the eighth to make the score 6-3, Knights advantage.

Neumann added two insurance runs in the top of the ninth. DeSales managed a two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth, but could not come any closer.

The Knights (5-8) open conference play tomorrow when they host Centenary College. The first-pitch is slated for 3 p.m.
