VERO BEACH, Fla. – The Neumann University baseball team dropped a 5-4 decision to St. John Fisher during its spring break trip Friday morning.
St. John Fisher scored a run in the bottom of the ninth inning to take the 5-4 win.
Gary Mitchell knocked in three runs for the Knights, going 2-for-4 from the plate. Matt Gallagher went 2-for-3 and scored a run.
Ray Schmoltze pitched seven innings. He struck out five. Sean Quigley went two innings and struck out two. Erik Klimoff pitched the ninth inning for the loss.
The Knights put two runs on the board in the top of the first when Mitchell had a two-run double. St. John Fisher answered with three runs in the home half of the first.
Neumann added two more runs in the third, both unearned. SJF tied the game in the fifth inning. The game remained tied until the bottom of the ninth when SJF scored the winning run on a single to right center field.
The Knights will finish up their spring break on Saturday morning with a doubleheader against Rochester. First pitch is slated for 9 a.m.
