Softball Wraps up Spring Break Trip

TUCSON, Ariz. – The Neumann University softball team traveled to Tuscan, Arizona for spring break play the week of March 1st. The Knights picked up two wins during their weeklong trip. Neumann defeated Sul Ross, 3-2, on their first day of play. The Knights then went on to defeat Alvernia, 9-1, in their final game on spring break.

 

Junior Kim Kirkpatrick recorded 13 hits and six runs scored during the trip, returning with a .542 batting average.  Kirkpatrick opened up the first game of the season going 3-4 from the plate and continued hitting well the remainder of the week.

 

Jennifer Goslin also produced at the plate for Neumann over spring break. Goslin drove in eight runs, while hitting two homeruns and a double.

 

Sarah McGann picked up the two wins on the mound for the Knights in four appearances. She picked up her first win in a relief appearance against Sul Ross, pitching three innings. The sophomore recorded her second win against Alvernia, pitching five innings, surrendering only one run and striking out one.

 

Brittany Campbell pitched well for the Knights on the trip, recording 21.1 innings on the mound over five games.  Campbell faced 88 batters, striking out eight. She returns home with a team low 2.62 ERA.

 

The Knights will open at home on Wednesday when they host Shenandoah. The first game of the doubleheader is slated for 2:30 p.m.
