ASTON, Pa. - Neumann University softball took two games from College for Notre Dame on Saturday afternoon. Neumann won 13-3 in game one and took home the shutout win 8-0 in game two.
In game one Jennifer Goslin led the Knights offense going 2-for-2 from the plate with five RBIs. Crystal Pearlman added three RBIs on two hits and Deanna Christy went 3-for-3 with three RBIs.
The Gators Ashley Taylor went 1-for-1 with an RBI and Noel Whitley also recorded an RBI. Kirsten Smulovitz pitched four innings, striking out two in the loss.
Neumann took control of the game from the start, scoring three runs in the first inning. The bottom of the second saw the Knights bats come alive, batting around the line-up and scoring seven runs to take a 10-0 lead. Neumann tacked on three more runs in the third. Notre Dame got on the board in the fourth and added two more in the fifth inning.
Sarah McGann pitched five strong innings, striking out eight for the win.
In game two Kim Kirkpatrick led the offense going 2-for-2 with an RBI and three runs scored. Stephanie Marrone went 2-for-2 with an RBI and two runs scored. Jennifer Goslin drove in three runs in the win.
The Knights bats continued to produce in the second game. Neumann took the early lead, scoring two runs in the first and four in the second to take a 6-0 lead. The Knights added two more runs in the fourth inning to extend their lead to eight. Rachel Purpuro held Notre Dame scoreless for five innings to take home the win and improving her record to 6-4.
Neumann recognized its five seniors after the doubleheader: Jennifer Goslin, Ana Galt, Gabrielle Lulias, Stephanie Marrone and Megan Mazur.
Neumann hosts Baptist Bible College on Monday afternoon. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
