ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University softball team fell to Widener University, 9-5, Wednesday afternoon in a rain soaked non-conference game.
Lauren Castiello had two hits for the Knights. Jennifer Goslin knocked in two runs and Kim Kirkpatrick scored two runs.
The Pride struck first as Kim Dougherty hit a solo homerun in the first inning. Widener then added three unearned runs in the second, two on a Lauren Brubaker double, to take a 3-0 lead.
Jennifer Goslin hit a two-run homerun in the third inning to make the score 4-3.
Widener put the game out of reach in the fourth inning as it added four runs to take a 8-3 lead.
Neumann scored two more runs in the fifth, but could not get any closer. The game was called after Widener batted in the sixth inning due to weather and field conditions.
Brittany Campbell started the game for the Knights. She went 4.0 innings. Sarah McGann pitched 2.0 innings.
Neumann is now 18-14 on the season. Widener improves to 22-13. The Knights will travel back to Gwynedd-Mercy on Friday to finished a suspended conference game. The game will resume at 5 p.m.
