Baseball Uses 23 Hits to Defeat Marywood 12-1

SCRANTON, Pa. – The Neumann University baseball team defeated Marywood University, 12-1, Friday afternoon in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action.

Josh Krautwald (3-0) pitched 7.0 innings, allowed one hit and struck out four. Mike Dicken pitched two innings in relief.

Brent Tamane was 4-for-5 and scored three runs in the lead-off position. Mathieu Vallieres had three hits, three RBI and three runs scored. The Knights pounded out 23 hits as a team.

The Knights jumped on the board early as Vallieres hit a two-run homerun as the second batter of the game. Neumann added two more runs to take an early 4-0 lead.

Neumann kept the pressure on in the second inning and plated five more runs. Matt Compton nocked in two runs on a double to left-center.

Marywood scored its lone run in the eighth inning. The Knights held the Pacers to just four hits in nine innings.

Neumann (14-13, 8-5 CSAC) and Marywood (11-19, 6-7 CSAC) will meet again tomorrow in a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m. at Neumann.
