Baseball Falls in Extra Innings

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University baseball team fell to Keystone College, 8-7 in 10 innings, Tuesday afternoon in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action.

Gary Mitchell was 4-for-6 with three RBI and a run scored to lead the Knights. Matt Grossi went 3-for-6 and scored two runs. Kevin Flanigan also went 3-for-6 with an RBI. Bobby Callan and Matt Gallagher each added two hits.

Josh Krautwald started the game and went 6.0 innings. He struck out seven in the no-decision. Mike Dicken, Joe Slater and George Hatton each went 0.2 innings. Erik Klimoff pitched the final two innings and took the loss.

The game was back and forth the entire afternoon as neither team could take more than a two run advantage.

Both teams scored two runs in the first inning. Michael Tomeo then hit a solo homerun in the bottom of the second to give the Knights a 3-2 lead. The Giants took back the lead with two runs on the third. Neumann answered with two runs in the third as well for a 4-3 NU advantage.

Keystone held a 7-6 lead heading into the bottom of the eighth. Mitchell scored on a wild pitch in the home half of the eighth to knot the game at 8-all. Neither team could score in the ninth and the game went into extra innings.

The Giants led off the top of the 10th with a solo homerun, which proved to be the game-winner.

Neumann (8-11, 3-3 CSAC) travels to Gwynedd-Mercy College on Friday for a CSAC contest. First-pitch is slated for 3 p.m.
