ASTON, Pa. – Neumann University softball spilt the double-header with Centenary College on Tuesday afternoon in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action. Neumann fell 2-0 in game one, but responded with a 3-1 victory in the second game.
In game one Lauren Hanson led the Knights offense going 2-for-3 from the plate. Sarah McGann took the loss in 6.1 innings of work.
Nicole Fleming went 2-for-3 from the plate for the Cyclones. Kristin Durborow picked up the win for Centenary College.
The Knights and Cyclones were well matched in game one with neither team getting on the scoreboard until the sixth inning. Centenary was able to knock in a run in the top of the sixth inning and then another run in the seventh. Neumann was not able to respond in the bottom of the seventh and fell 2-0 in game one.
Megan Mazur led Neumann in game two against Centenary. Mazur went 2-for-2 with a double and run scored. Gabrielle Lulias went 1-for-2 from the plate. Brittany Campbell picked up the win in seven innings of work.
Caitlin Veverka went 3-for-3 for the Cyclones and Sarah Olsen picked up the loss.
Campbell pitched well in the back end of the double header. The Knights surrendered a run in the top of the second inning to trail 1-0. Neumann tied the game up at 1-1 in the third inning. The Knights would added a run in each of the next two innings to take a 3-1 lead after five innings. Campbell would keep the Cyclones of the board in the final two innings of play to record her third win on the season. Neumann improves to 9-11 overall and 7-1 in the CSAC.
Neumann will host Cedar Crest on Friday afternoon in a conference doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
