GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. – The Neumann University baseball team fell to Gwynedd-Mercy College, 11-7, Wednesday afternoon in the first round of the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) first round.
Matt Gallagher went 2-for-3 with a home run and four RBI to lead the Knights. Josh Krautwald started the game for Neumann. Mike Dicken and George Hatton pitched in relief.
The Knights jumped on the board early as Gallagher hit a two-run single. The Griffins knotted the game up at two with two unearned runs in the third.
Gwynedd-Mercy then plated five runs in the home half of the fourth to take a 7-2 advantage. GMC then added two more runs in the fifth to make the score 9-2.
Neumann did not go quiet and scored four runs in the eighth inning. Matt Grossi hit a two-run double to left center. Gallagher followed with a two-run shot to left field. However, the was all the Knights could plate and fell 11-7.
The Knights (18-16-1) will face Centenary in an elimination game on Friday morning. The CSAC Championship moves to Boyertown, Pa. for the final rounds. First pitch for Neumann is 11 a.m.
