ASTON, Pa- The Neumann University women's basketball team stayed undefeated in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action with a 63-53 win over Centenary College Thursday night.
Katie Young took charge for the Knights as she kept her double-double streak going. Young led the Knights in scoring with 24 points and bringing down 16 boards.
Katy DeGraw led Centenary with a double-double, scoring 11 points while adding 11 rebounds. Other double-digit point scorers for the Cyclones were Jen Vasta, Ashley Bays and Danielle Trucksess, each scoring 10 points.
Both teams had trouble shooting from the field during the first half, each going 10-30 from the field for a 33.3 shooting percentage. Neither team could pull away from the other during the first 20 minutes of play. A three-pointer by Cecily Scavicchio with 2:23 remaining in the half gave Neumann a one point lead and was the fifth and final lead change of the half. The teams headed to the locker rooms with Neumann leading Centenary 30-25.
Centenary would not go down easily, staying within seven points for most of the second half. Neumann would then go on a 9-0 run to pull ahead of the Cyclones 52-40 with 6:25 remaining in the game. Neumann kept the foot on the gas pedal as they controlled the remainder of the game and came out with a 63-53 victory.
With the win, Neumann improves to 11-6 overall, 8-0 in the CSAC. With the loss, Centenary drops to 9-8 overall, 6-3 in the CSAC.
The Knights will travel to Keystone College on Saturday afternoon. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m.
