ASTON, Pa. – The No. 11 Neumann University men's ice hockey team opened its 2011-12 season with a 5-4 win over No. 15 Curry College on Sunday afternoon.
Cory Park notched two goals in the game. Dave Gervais had a goal and two assists. Scott Farrell had a goal and an assist. Will Lacasse dished out three assists.
The Knights jumped out to an early 2-0 lead 2:18 into the game. Farrell lit the lamp on the power play while Gervais scored off a rebound at the 2:18 mark.
Curry's Michael Curran scored at the 14:41 mark to cut the Knights lead to 2-1.
Park scored the first of his two goals on the power play with just one second left in the first period and the Knights took a 3-1 lead into the first intermission.
The Colonels would score two goals in a 41 second span in the beginning at the second period to knot the game at three.
Brent Tamane gave Neumann a 4-3 lead at the 10:10 mark. Michael Lopez tied the game at 4-all with 1:57 left in the second period and the two teams went into the second intermission tied.
After eight goals were scored in the first two periods, only one goal would get out on the board in the third period. Park netted his second goal on the power play at the 10:56 mark.
Ross MacKinnon made 25 saves in net en route to the win. Joe Dawson had 30 saves for Curry.
Neumann went 3-for-6 on the power play in the win.
The Knights (1-0) will start conference play next weekend with trips to Hobart and Elmira.
