Knights Fly Past PSU-Brandywine

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University baseball team defeated cross-town rivals Penn-State Brandywine 21-5 on Thursday afternoon.

 

Mathieu Vallieres went 3-for-4 with four RBI and three runs scored. Bill Pace was 2-for-4 and scored two runs. Matt Grossi knocked in three runs on three hits. Kevin Flanigan hit a three run homerun in the fourth inning and finished with four RBI. Eric Silakowski went 2-for-3 and scored two runs.

 

Ray Schmoltze started the game for Neumann and went two innings. Mike Dicken pitched the third innings. Matt Compton went in the fourth and fifth innings, struck out three and picked up the win. George Hatton, JJ Sims, Sean Quigley and Josh Krautwald all pitched an inning.

 

The Knights got on the board in the bottom of the first with two unearned runs. Neumann then capitalized on three PSU-Brandywine errors in the second inning for seven runs and an early 9-0 lead.

 

After adding two runs in the third, the Knights would put seven on the board again in the fourth. Silakowski and Nick Martin hit back-to-back triples. Pace walked and Valieres followed with the third triple in four batters. Flanigan would hit his long ball in the inning as well.

 

The Knights would add three more runs in the seventh inning, capped by a two-run double by Kevin Hopkins.

 

With the win, Neumann improves to 10-1 on the season. The Knights open conference play this weekend when they travel to Marywood University on Saturday for a doubleheader. The two teams will meet at Neumann for a single game on Sunday afternoon.
